HTML day in the nutmeg state
today is HTML day! all around the world, people are gathering to write and celebrate hypertext markup language. i love handcrafted websites! so today is a good one.
i woke up way too early, like i tend to do whenever i'm really excited (or nervous1) about something. i thought about using that time to blog, but i wanted to wait until after the meetup to write today's post. instead, i rearranged, printed, and folded a few copies of HTML in the park's cookbook from last year's event. i also packed a few extension cords, and my copy of melon's guide to homepage web craft.2 on the way there, i picked up a bag of mandarin oranges3 for everyone to share.
our meetup was small: three of us writing HTML, plus two hanging out and chatting between other things. we talked about the internet archive, <details> and <summary> elements, the :hover pseudoclass, the similarities and differences between zines and websites... many of my favorite things. the group was smaller than i expected, but how could i complain? it is such a pleasure to sit side by side and create things with people. it's something i do regularly with more traditional art groups, but today was the first time i've been in a room with other people working in the medium i love the most. let's keep making websites forever and ever.
